Colette Walker: A new approach to public infrastructure? Start by making buildings accessible

commonspace.scot/articles/1296

"In conclusion I urge Scotland’s future SNIC to build indoor/outdoor spaces to be of high accessibility for all. This practice will benefit society and the economy; more users means more economic growth in our business.

Inclusion for all isn’t rocket science, it just takes a little consideration and respect. Let Scotland lead the way in accessibility for all."

@asovereignscot
This is correct. Often for new build, it doesn't cost any more to make buildings accessible, just forethought.

My observation: accessibility is much better in Scotland, than it is in some of our European neighbours. Doesn't mean we shouldn't strive to improve.

@fitheach absolutely, forethought and consideration of the needs of a'body should be fundamental to new builds.

Should a proposal for a national investment company be given the green light it would also be good to see projects retroactively address failings in accessibility in existing public spaces.

The mentality of there being always room for improvement should be set in stone in any such company.
